Sherry Ponder

Sherry offers private therapeutic yoga instruction, and also helps keep the office running smoothly. And that's on top of her work in the public elementary school as a reading interventionist and her public yoga classes!

Sherry's yoga instruction incorporates her excellent foundation in alignment and sequencing but still inspires a sense of lightheartedness and playfulness. Her technical knowledge combines with her compassion, encouragement and communication skills in such a way that her clients can really learn and benefit from their sessions with her.

She has done intensive training with senior Anusara yoga instructors, and has acquired hundreds of hours of training in Iyengar, Viny and other yoga styles as well. She has studied structural and therapeutic principles extensively, and has been a certified fitness instructor since 1999.

Sherry also teaches a free public yoga class at the Community Center on Mondays and  Wednesdays from 5:15 to 6:30.

In this “Grace & Alignment" class, a concise set of alignment principles are applied to each “asana” or pose. Movement and actions within every pose are coordinated with the breath.

-         Postural alignment is emphasized, with verbal instruction and hands-on adjustments given to enhance each student’s poses.

-         Poses are modified or supported with props if necessary to help each student achieve good form and experience the wonderful feeling of a well-done pose without straining or risk of injury.

-         Demonstrations are used to clarify alignment instructions.

This class is designed to serve students of any experience level or ability, from children to seniors, and can benefit those with special therapeutic needs as well as advanced practitioners.
